birthday girl8 July ~ Happy Happy Joy Joy Dear Dear Lampsha! Birthday’s are good, m’kay?

As Brigette Bardot once said ~ It’s sad to grow old, but nice to ripen. I, for one, happen to think you’re coming along quite nicely! (snuppy)

I started thinking what group or songwriter I might spin this week and so began surfing about for inspiration. Now I’ve been reading about Miranda July in recent times – she is not a singer (that I know of), but she was featured in one of Blonde Redhead’s videos, which for the heck of it, I’ve posted below. She is a performance artist, a screenwriter, actress – well read up in the link above.

Anyway, everywhere I turn I read something about Miranda July. Miranda buys used designer clothing and looks fabulous. She has a book that just came out in May, No one belongs here more than you. There have been book signings that I’ve read of and thought for a millisecond “if I were actually a hipster, I too would be cramming into the Public Library on 42nd Street to see Miranda July chatting with David Byrne” (of Talking Heads fame – sorry for that, just wanted to remind you of who he is). There I would sip wine and meet other fabulously hip like minded people and…wake up! Hello? Husband? Two kids? Dinner? Back to earth.

I went to her website for her new book which had me chuckling and then I read the reviews of the book and it sounded quirky, offbeat-funny – my kind of book in other words. I was all set to write about her site unseen which would have made me only slightly a poseur, but then I bought the book. Her book comes in pink or yellow covers – to match your outfit. I wasn’t wearing either color, but I bought it in pink – mainly because that was the only color for sale at Barnes & Noble. And guess what? I love it! I’ve only read three stories, but for The Swim Team alone it would have been worth the price of admission.

Then in another inspired moment I joined Netflix so that I could rent her movie, Me and You and Everyone we Know, which she wrote and starred in (and maybe directed but I’m running a little late here). My place in hipster heaven is almost guaranteed. I also joined Netflix because of a little “misunderstanding” with our local video store in which I threatened to join Netflix, oh yes I will!

So although not actually a true “Spin”, I thought it would be a little fun to share a quirky funny artist of a different sort. Now I’m off to take the kids to a water park in the mountains somewhere (our companions know where we’re going). Stay cool and have a wonderful day. And hey, I found a penny face up today on 7/7/07 – I’m feeling lucky!

Oops, almost forgot – head on over to Humor-blogs.com where no one belongs more than you!

I’m late with the Spin, late getting my act together, but I’m sure it will all work out in the end! I’m off for the day, so adios amigos and have a wonderful day.

Here in NYC, temps in the 90’s are lurking so we’re out of here!

wow, Lampsha! i knew you were “cool” but a “hipster”? pat my head and call me shorty! Miranda July is fascinating… and clearly talented. tho’ i confess i might be able to conjure up a “performance piece” like the one she did. okay, maybe i wouldn’t look nearly as cute as she does, in that slinky green sweater, sexy red pumps, and sweet flower in her hair, but still… like Madonna, i can “strike a pose” when the mood, um, strikes. (i’d probably wind up doing my dance to DEVO, but that’s beside the point. or is it the point? i mean, “Neva Does Devo”? when you stop thinking it’s a “Debbie Does Dallas” porno kind of thing, that might be pretty cool. or not…)

what the hell am i saying here? i know not. wait, maybe i do: i LOVELOVELOVE this Saturday Spin, and adore the fact that you featured someone whose last name is “JULY”, in the month of July, especially since you did it on the DAY BEFORE YOUR BIRTHDAY!

,,\/(^_^)\/,, the fact that Miranda’s posing to the tunes of the Blonde Redheads is sweet! a nifty two-fer bonus, if ever there was one. or two.

Now that book sounds like soemthign worth reading, one story and it had you? I’ll definitely look into it! I have to admit too that that seems one verz artsy woman, and although I always say that with a hint of humor…I appreciate it with her. Dig that flower in her hair.
I would have been greta in teh 60ies. The 90 were so boring to be a teenager in!

Nice weekend you lot!

The post was a hoot, and now I have to get into Miranda July

Snuppy’s comment was too too funny πŸ™‚

You hipsters

Cool! Great review. I love the red shoes with jeans, too.

If Neva does Devo it will be worth paying to see…trust me. I’ve seen the previews (usually in the kitchen) and it is a real treat. Interesting video…another cool song by Blonde Redheads. Great job Lampsha (as per usual).

Haven’t read the post yet, but wanted to rush right over here to tell you that I read Modesto as the “fifth” capitol of California, just as you did. Toof Unny, huh?

Comment by Gawpo

Okay, I just read the post. And you know what? I thought Diesel said that Modesto was the “fifth” capitol of California.

Snuppy, I’d love to see your Neva does Devo performance art! You bring the moves, I’ll bring the Devo – your kitchen, be there!

I love her fab little gawky teenager meets chanteuse look which I think you’d have no problem pulling off! Yes July in July to Blonde Redheadd – hey it’s my birthday πŸ˜‰ XOX

German Penguin who still nonetheless speaks English: Artsy but with a sense of humor, always a good combo I say. So nice to see you here! Hope your first leg of your vacation is going great.

Oh yeah sure, rub it in my face on my birthday about being a teeanger in the 90’s. That’s okay, I can take it – no prob. By the way, I can totally see you in the Miranda July look – flowers and all.

Have a great weekend yourself and hurry on to the next leg of your vacation!

Pia, ha – another thing to add to your list. Glad you enjoyed. And we’re hipsters allright – in our heads. Have a great weekend and stay oool! It’s hot out there.

Actonbell, thanks. It’s not a professional quality review such as you serve up in Paradise Alley, but it gives a glimpse into someone new, so there’s that. I’ll bet you have something like those red shoes in your collection πŸ™‚

Bobo, book me a front row seat as I am sure it would certainly be worth the ticket price. Aw shucks, thanks Joel.

Gawpo, did you chase something shiney in here? The topic – Miranda July – discuss.

Okay Snarksters – have a wonderful weekend and stay cool.
