teacherSO far this week, we’ve managed to broaden your collective pools of knowledge in a number of ways. First, we helped to expand your geographical horizons by introducing you to a little something called Eurovision (okay, maybe that was a stretch, but what the hell). Then CrummyJoel demonstrated how a few well-chosen words can be crafted into a world class poem — in hopes of inspiring one or two of you slackers to pursue your own creative writing projects. And yesterday, teh Penguin managed to scratch beneath the surface of your psyches, in order to bare your inability to see Jesus and/or discern between one and 3 (or 4) ships. We don’t know about any of you, but our brains are totally pumped up. So much so, we’re thinkin’ it’s time to do something totally mindless not related to dissing Diesel and/or pimping his clever/hilarious book.

BY “mindless”, of course, we mean to say we’d like to tickle your collective fancies and/or funny bones for a few minutes, in hopes of helping you give your big brains a well-deserved rest. And don’t let us catch you complaining about having to watch a crummy video, Bubs and Bubbettes. Do you see a playground anywhere around here? We don’t either. This may not be recess, but it’s the next best thing, so quit yer bitchin’ and let us get on with our train-wreck of a thought.

OVER the past several months, we’ve introduced you (once or twice) to the joy that is TEEN GIRL SQUAD. Silly us, despite our own keen appreciation for this “featurette”, we never quite got around to explaining how such a delightful cartoon came about. “Teen Girl Squad” was the result of a hilarious response to a bit ‘o fan e-mail, sent to a funny little guy named “Strong Bad“, who is one of many unique characters found on HOMESTARRUNNER. Strong Bad is sort of a super-duper wrestler kind of a guy with a deep voice and childlike-yet-sarcastic sensibility, who spends a lot of time sitting in front of his computer decked out in a red and black costume. He tries to sound curmudgeonly, but mostly he’s just funny. (sound like anyone else we know?) The following is an excellent example of how Strong Bad reads and/or responds to the various folks who flood his “in” box with questions.

EVEN tho’ we’re SO not pimping Diesel’s clever and/or hilarious book, this clip might give some of you and excellent idea of what goes into the arduous task of writing one, in case any of you feel so inclined to try your hand at putting together one of your own, sometime in the future. Apparently it’s not as hard as you might think.

IF you enjoyed that, you can treat yourselves to more silly Strong Bad e-mails, by clicking HERE. Actually, you should do that, even if you didn’t enjoy the clip, because it’ll help “explain” why it started out the way it did (Strong Bad sings little songs to himself as he “checks” his mails — which are from REAL people, by the way). But don’t blame us if you become so distracted watching a few more “e-mails” you forget to make that Very Important Call/do your homework/read Diesel’s book, and/or walk the dog. Seriously, every one of SB’s absurd “responses” are completely hilarious. At least that’s what we keep telling ourselves when we spend too much time on this site instead of doing all that other stuff we keep meaning to do.

strong bad black & whiteFYI: the entire Homestar Runner site is pretty PG-13, so you can keep the volume up-ish — even in the privacy of your own cubicle. By the way — and speaking of Diesel (the person we’re NOT talking about today) if you stare at this picture of Strong Bad for 30 seconds or so, and then close you eyes, you just might get a cool surprise (if staring doesn’t work, click on the image). Hey, looky there, did we not just bring this post back full circle from whence we started? Why yes, we believe we did.

Help! We’re trapped inside Humor-blogs.com, and we can’t get out. Send snacks.

Loving the Strong Bad…simple genius if you ask me, which you didn’t but I know you agree. Good one Snuppy!

Oh, yeah. The best Strong Bad email cartoon, in my opinion, is called “death metal.” jugga-jigga-wugga.

Snuppy, I now salute the skill and care required to weave the literary tapestry of this post, and even leave a threadlet connecting it to other posts. Well crafted, well crafted indeed.

Bossy is so not commenting on Diesel. Crap, she blew it.

This guy is is a dual comedy threat. Not only is he hysterical, but he can write awesome animation. I, on the other hand, am no threat at all.

Seriously good stuff at StrongBad. I had never heard of him. I love the Central Snark site. You guys know how to corrupt me and help me waste all of my time. Thanks.

BoBo: “simple genius”. i like it! ’tis the perfect way to describe Strong Bad. πŸ™‚

Frogster: Death Metal is hilarious. Strong Bad’s episode on Death Metal is, too. πŸ˜‰

BOSSY: brillaint! he’ll never think to look for your non-comments here. πŸ™„

Jeff: maybe, but YOU’VE got the corner on playing that harmonica (i don’t even know how he types with those gloves on — can you imagine him playing an actual instrument??) 😎

TLP: i owe all my “corruption” material to my two sons. this is how they manage to stay on my “good” side. πŸ˜‰

You watch some weird stuff. Are you sure you’re not like 20 years younger than me?

(Yes! Officially back on snuppy’s good side!)

Comment by Diesel

Diesel: i do, i wish, and you are. πŸ˜‰

Snuppy thank you! I’ve been a fan of Homestarrunner since the very beginning of that site! They were one of the first places on the Internet to use Flash animations and have been a regular view of mine since 2000.

My favourite Strongbad email is “Techno”. The song he creates is a perfect mock of any techno music and pretty darn good in it’s own right. His techno.mp3 is part of my collection and every now and then I catch myself humming the toon.

I love strong bad, well…heck…I believe it is you and your offspring that got me into them. i remember hours spent at the computer watching epsiodes…thanks for adding to those fun moments spent, by making me click a link and get lost. I guess bone tissue and its composition can wait πŸ™‚
