SINCE most of you didn’t (see the following post yesterday), that shouldn’t be too much of a stretch! On this fine(ish) Tuesday, we are featuring another question from SPIN CYCLE, which, we agree, is a topic all parents, parents-to-be, people who have parents, and people who never want to be parents but have opinions on such things should find interesting. That doesn’t mean you will, but, for the sake of a topic, we don’t care.

Spin Cycle writes:
Ooooh Ooooh (I am channeling Horseshack from Welcome Back Kotter) Here’s a topic. “Who’s responsible for making sure your child knows about birth control, STI’s, sex etc.. Is it Mom and Dad’s responsibility, or is it the school’s responsiblity?” Having a HUGE debate at work right now about this.
~ * ~ * ~ * ~ * ~ * ~
So? What do you think, Snarkletts? Is it Mom & Dad’s responsibility to dispense this information? Or should we just let our kids find out about all things related to the “birds & bees” by watching past episodes of Real Sex on HBO? Weigh in. Unless, of course, you did yesterday, only to find your comment dashed to it’s death on the deleted rocks below and/or applied to yesterday’s post. In which case it sounded like you thought it was your parent’s responsibility to teach you how to disco, and that you were bitter because they never told you about all the variations available and/or that proper gear could make the difference between a successful “casual” encounter on the floor and one in which you’d be shuffle-ball-kicking yourself all the way into the pits of hell.

WE saw THIS ARTICLE yesterday, but, since we didn’t want to interrupt the good Snarking already underway, we (wisely) decided to wait until today to ask your opinion of this bizarre bit of potential movie casting. Of course, maybe we’re the only ones who think it’s weird. In which case, maybe we’re wrong to think it’s even MORE weird that THIS ACTRESS has already announced her intention to play the role. Wrong or right, we do know one thing… this stuff makes our head hurt.

TODAY, George W. Bush, self-proclaimed POTUS, turns 60. A few weeks ago, one of us heard an interview on NPR with a “performance artist”, travelling around the country gathering birthday greetings for Dubya. Her “performance” included sitting down at a typewriter while folks dictated a few lines to her, which she typed on a postcard. We know we were sorry we missed her when she came to a city near us. Gosh! To see some lame-ass broad young lady dressed in a mini-skirt and white knee-high boots, sitting down at a typewriter alone would have been worth the price of admission.
In fact, we were so disheartened to have been denied this unique experience, we’ve decided to do our own version of the “performance” here in the Snark Park. That way we can provide everyone with a chance to wish the Prez something. Maybe it’s Happy Birthday, maybe it’s… well, we’ll leave that to your collective imaginations.
Of course, if you’re disinclined to acquiesce, perhaps you’d prefer to mark the birthday of another, quite possibly more popular icon, the Bikini. You know, we used to have one of those, until we caught a glimpse of ourselves in it a few years ago, and realized the world would be a far better place if we never put one on again.

Hi all, I put the red bud masthead up in honour of the growing season that is getting going here ( I know, you all are WAY ahead of me). I’ll leave it for a while now, then try another lamp one for you later.
I wanted to mention again that some usernames keep getting caught by the spam catcher on this blog. Cowgirl, Village Idiot and Ariella/Logo have been the most often caught.
Just reminding you that this can happen so you don’t get upset when your comments are missing. This is supposed to be a ‘learning’ program (Akismet) and when you tell it something is not spam, it shouldn’t catch it again….however, I have concluded that it is developmentally delayed 🙂

Here are some candidates for the picture at the top of blog. I already tried them all out and the last 4 or 5 look best. The top few are too busy (except for the one that’s mostly sky)
Please note, now that we’ve got it figured out how to do this, anyone can give us a picture anytime to try on top. Its just got to be big enough that it can be resized and/or cropped to 730×140 pixels without distorting.
Lotsa trees:

This is Laura posting. I would appreciate it if over the weekend people come to this thread and give their honest thoughts on how things are going in the park. Last weekend we had the discussion about the rating of the blog and content. I'd like to hear people's impressions and suggestions if you have any.
Honestly? after a week I don't think I fit in here. If everyone else is enjoying what's happening and the park is viable as is, say so. If there needs to be changes, guidelines, please say so. ***PLEASE NOTE, An Update: First, after reading last night's comments I want people to stop being concerned about offending me. That didn't happen. OK? Upfront-I like and accept the people coming here, don't sweat that, please. Uncomfortable means something different. Which I'll try to clarify in them comments rather than hog 'air time' here.
I won't say any more about my opinions right now because I don't want to influence anyone. I haven't asked Sophie's permission to post this or had time to discuss it with her so don't blame her if you don't like this. You can mail me (or her) privately if you'd rather communicate that way. There is also a blog mail box you can send mail to by clicking on the page about that says 'contact one hot puppy'. So, lots of options.
I don't know how much I'll be able to get here this weekend so wanted to get the post up sooner rather than later.
thanks for your input!

I just checked the spam bucket and comments from the Village Idiot, Cowgirl, and O'Ceallaigh were in there and one waiting for moderation. I have no idea why but in case you posted a comment today or yesterday that didn't show up…that explains it.
I approved them all so they should show up in their appropriate places!
Carry on.

Hi, its Laura, sneaking into the Hot Puppy suit. 🙂
I guess my Template OCD problem is rising its head again. I find this picture too eerie (like fog in trees) and would like to get a more green, park like photo for our header photo. If any one has a picture they'd like to put up there, please send it to me at Kyahgirl2003@yahoo.ca
I'll upload some candidates next week and you guys can choose.
The only limitation is that this version of wordpres.com doesn't give us much flexibility so the picture has to be 730 pixels wide by 140 pixels high. If it can be cropped or sized to that without distorting it, great!
As a reward for turning some of your brain energy to this difficult task, I'm going to give you a laugh.
My friend Jill has been battling cancer for several years. She is one of the most positive, optimist people I know and she shared this cute saying with me yesterday at work. I hope you like it:
I'd like to be a Glow worm, a glow worm's never glum.

Sophie and Casper (Neva and Laura) didn't discuss this issue anywhere in the setting up of Central Snark. Today Jenna (The Little Blue PIll) asked what the movie rating is for this place. Sophie proposed NC-17 and asked if any one would like to express an opinion. Because this is a community playground, I'm putting this post up so everyone can weigh in if they want to.
This is Laura typing this by the way, so I thought I'd give my opinion first. (yeah, I'm in control of the buttons so you have no say!) 🙂
I talked once on my blog about the kind of home I grew up in. We were always encouraged to 'look things up' and learn as much as we could. That upbringing and the subsequent 'wide reading' gave me an abhorrence for censorship. Therefore, I am never going to say I want to censor anyone on this blog from speaking their mind on any topic at all and in any language they want, colourful or not. (Remind me someday to tell you about the study of movie ratings I undertook at University in my 20's. Watched a lot of porn for that course!)
I think most of the people who will come to this place are reasonable adults and decent human beings. If you want to swear, go ahead. If you want to talk about sex or genitalia (Miz B!), go ahead. Its supposed to be a place to hang out, blow off steam, and enjoy your cyberfriends. I will behave as I would in any public, yet informal setting with my friends.
My only boundary is – I don't welcome nasty, vindictive, cruel, hurtful people into my real life, I don't want to welcome them here. If someone joins in at the playground on a regular basis and behaves like that, I will consider them a troll and ask my buddy Neva to kick them out !! 🙂 (She's the enforcer). Just kidding. You know what I mean.
That's not to say people can't get mad and have arguements and discussions, as long as its conducted along the lines of 'fair fighting (no name calling, accountable language, etc.)
Well, I think I've blabbed enough. Let's hear your thoughts.
Well, if you’re here, obviously you know the answer to that. Unless, of course, you choose not to (snark, that is).
Yesterday, Romance Enhancer asked the question: “What does SNARK mean?” to which, clever puppies that we are, we replied:
According to Wikipedia:
“Snark” refers to a belittling style of speech or writing. It could loosely be described as irritable or “snidely derisive”; hence, ‘snarkish’, ‘snarky’, ‘to snark at somebody’. (The Urban Dictionary refers to it as a contraction of “snide remark”.)
In other words (ours), to “snark” is to snipe (make malicious, underhand remarks or attacks), only kinder. It’s to yip (sharp, high-pitched bark; a yelp), only softer. It’s to quip (petty distinction or objection; a quibble), with more edge. And, by all means, to “snark” is to drip (ooze or be saturated with or as if with liquid) with well-chosen words of sarcasm. And yes, a “snark” is most definitely a snip (person regarded as impertinent or mischievous)…
So. Is everyone clear? Alrighty then! Since one of us just had the immense frustration of having–what we believed to be–an extremely clever and/or hilarious comment virtually devoured by that whore Blogger before it could ever see the light of the internet day, by all means… let the Snarking Begin!
